Early Life
Ben went to Appoquinimink High School in Middletown, Delaware. That’s a public school near the Appoquinimink School District. Ben was a senior there, which means he was about 17 or 18 years old when he started Blooket.
As a kid in high school, he played games like Kahoot and Quizlet in class. But he got bored thinking, “These games are okay, but I can make something better!” The same kids always won, and wanted more fun ways to play and learn.
Creating Blooket
Ben had never coded a website before. It was really hard at first! The site crashed a lot in the early days and wasn’t safe. But he kept trying.
He got the idea for blooks from a free art pack online. The little square creatures looked like blocks, so he changed “block” to “blook” – and “Blooket” was born! It sounded awesome.Blooket started small. Ben wanted the simplest game he could make. He added rarities like common blooks (his favorite is Bear) and rare ones (like Ghost or Tim the Alien). This made players want to play more.
In summer 2022, Ben worked hard and made four new game modes, like Gold Quest and Tower Defense. His favorite is Battle Royale. He doesn’t like Racing Mode because it gives random points.
Tower Defense took him a whole year to build. Flappy Blook came from his love of Flappy Bird.
Ben’s Blooket username is Bot. He has test accounts too.
His Website and Fun Facts
Ben has a website called benstewartyt.com. On it, he says: “Hi, I’m Ben. I try to make fun things. Yes, I created Blooket.” There’s a funny self-portrait of him holding an orange. He jokes, “No, I don’t like tomatoes. Pls leave.”1
He share game updates on Blooket Discord.
Changes and Trivia2
Ben and his team add and remove features to stop cheaters. They took away the referral program because kids spammed fake accounts to get free Plus. Some cheaters got Plus for years, but Ben fixed it. They might bring some stuff back later.
Almost everything removed was abused. Ben keeps making Blooket better!
