Don’t Look Down is a climbing game mode in Gimkit where players goal is to reach the very top of a huge map. It was first made by Team Gimkit and released in 2023. Later, it became part of the first season in 2024. This was also the very first mode that used the new platforming system in Gimkit, where players can move and jump on platforms like in classic video games.

Table of Contents
Summits
The game is divided into different stages called Summits. Each Summit has its own height and theme.
- Summit 1 (0m–210m): Emberwall Ascent
- Summit 2 (211m–274m): Coral Climb
- Summit 3 (275m–448m): Agent Adventure
- Summit 4 (449m–573m): Growing Up
- Summit 5 (574m–704m): Frosty Peaks
- Summit 6 (705m–999m): One Way Up
- End (1000m): Climb Complete
Playing the Mode
The way to play is simple. You need to answer questions to collect Energy. Energy is the main resource used to move and jump. Every jump costs some Energy, and even falling uses up Energy. When checkpoints are turned on, you will restart from the last summit you reached. If checkpoints are off, falling all the way down or touching lasers in the later summits can send you back to the very beginning at Summit 1.

To win, you need to save enough Energy and keep climbing until you reach the very top of the tower. The higher you go, the more careful you need to be.
Helpful Advice
You really need to plan to climb in don’t look down mode. Without using shortcuts, you will need about 40,000 Energy to reach the top. If you decide to use shortcuts, you can finish with about 30,000 Energy. Shortcuts may look tempting, but they are risky unless you are speed-running, since one mistake can make you fall.
Lag can also be a problem in this mode. If you have many browser tabs open, your game may lag and cause your character to fall off. Lag can even stop your double jump halfway or make you pass through objects by accident. Closing other tabs helps you play smoother.
Some parts of the map are confusing, like the Frosty Peaks slide. On this slide, you have to jump on a wooden bench without using your double jump. Then, once you are sliding, you can use your double jump only at the right moment to land safely on the next platform.
Extra Facts About the Game
- Players can normally jump about 4 meters, but with a double jump they can go up to 6 meters.
- The game was mainly developed by Jakub, a staff member at Gimkit who designed the physics.
- A teaser for Don’t Look Down first appeared in Season 1 of 2024, along with climbing-themed cosmetics like Summit Seeker and the Climbing Axe.
- Plant lasers from the earlier game mode One Way Out return in the final summit. Touching them will send you back depending on whether checkpoints are on or off.
- If a single player reaches the very top, the game ends for everyone, no matter the timer.
- During April Fools’ 2024, the gravity in this mode was changed. Players could jump as high as 15 meters and double jump up to 24 meters, which created many new shortcuts.
- At the bottom of the map, there is an invisible barrier that marks the very center of the platforming world. At different times, this barrier has been visible or replaced with a large orange wall.
Testing Before Release
Like other Gimkit game modes, Don’t Look Down was tested in the official Gimkit Discord before its launch. During testing, the game was very different. Characters had slippery movement, jumps were lighter, and it was easy to skip parts of the map. However, this made it harder to control, since air movement could not be stopped easily. Bugs were also common, such as lasers staying on forever, which made the game impossible to finish. Many of these issues were fixed before the final version was released.
I don’t remember we were on gimkit too ?
