- It is one of the five Frog reskins, alongside Lucky Frog, Lovely Frog, Spring Frog, and Vampire Frog.
- In real life, Poison dart frog (also known as dart-poison frog, poison frog or formerly known as poison arrow frog) is the common name of a group of frogs in the family Dendrobatidae containing 16 genera and approximately 210 species (as of 2024), which are native to tropical Central and South America.
- In our planet, they are poisonous, meaning their toxins are on their skin and cause harm if an animal touches or tries to eat them. They are not venomous, so they don’t bite or inject poison
- Poison Dart Frog are very small, usually only about 1 to 2 inches (2.5 to 5 cm) long, roughly the size of a paper clip.
- Most poison dart frogs have vivid colors (like blue, red, yellow, and green) that act as a “don’t eat me” warning to predators. This is called aposematic coloration.
- Poison Dart Frogare carnivores and use their long, sticky tongues to catch small insects like ants, termites, and beetles on the forest floor.
- Poison Dart Frog do not make their own poison. They get their toxins from the specific insects they eat in the wild. These insects likely get the toxins from the plants they consume.’
- Poison Dart Frog live in the humid tropical rainforests of Central and South America.
- Unlike most frogs, they are diurnal, meaning they are active during the day.
- Many species show advanced parental care. After the eggs hatch, one of the parents (often the male) carries the tadpoles on their back to a small pool of water in a plant (like a bromeliad) where they can safely grow.
- The golden poison dart frog is the most toxic of all, with enough poison in its skin to potentially kill 10-20 adult men.
- Indigenous people in Colombia have historically used the potent poison from some species, particularly the Phyllobates genus, to coat the tips of their blow darts for hunting, which is how the frogs got their name.
- Due to their strong poison, they have very few natural predators. One specific snake, the fire-bellied snake, has developed a resistance to their toxins and can eat them.
