Astronaut Blook

Appearance

It is wearing a white and light blue spacesuit, like an astronaut. Its face is a big, golden rectangle with two big, round eyes and a friendly smile. It also has a little microphone on its cheek, like it’s ready to talk to mission control. On the side of its suit, there’s a big blue letter “B.” In its background there is one sun, 16 stars which are shining white, and one planet which has a purple color. And the space is blue.

Now let’s see some real life facts about Astronaut:

• The word “astronaut” means “star sailor” in Greek.
• In Russia, astronauts are called cosmonauts; in China, they are called taikonauts.
• The first person in space was Yuri Gagarin from the Soviet Union in 1961.
• The first person to walk on the Moon was Neil Armstrong in 1969.
• Astronauts float in microgravity, which is a state of weightlessness.
• Because of microgravity, an astronaut’s spine can straighten, making them up to 3% taller.
• Their height returns to normal a few months after they come back to Earth.
• Bodily fluids shift toward their heads, causing their faces to look puffy in space.
• This fluid shift also dulls their sense of taste, so they often prefer spicy foods.
• Astronauts eat specially prepared, often dehydrated or canned food.
• They use sealed pouches with straws to drink to prevent liquids from floating away.
• Bread isn’t allowed on the International Space Station (ISS) because crumbs could damage equipment.
• If an astronaut cries, their tears form a floating blob on their face instead of falling.
• There are no showers in space, so they clean themselves with wet wipes and waterless shampoo.
• Astronauts sleep in sleeping bags strapped to a wall to keep from floating around.
• The ISS orbits Earth every 90 minutes, so astronauts see 16 sunrises and sunsets every 24 hours.
• They must exercise for about two hours a day to keep their muscles and bones strong.
• American astronauts on the ISS have to learn Russian to work with their Russian colleagues.
• Spacesuits protect them from extreme temperatures and the vacuum of space.
• The orange launch and entry suits are so bright so they can be easily seen in an emergency.
• Spacewalks, or Extravehicular Activities (EVAs), require wearing a full spacesuit, which is like a personal mini-spaceship.
• To practice spacewalks, astronauts train underwater in a huge swimming pool on Earth.
• They must wear specialized diapers called Maximum Absorbency Garments during long missions or spacewalks.
• Astronaut Alan Shepard famously hit a golf ball on the Moon in 1971.
• Apollo 16 astronaut Charles Duke left a photograph of his family on the Moon in 1972.
• The ISS is the largest man-made object ever to orbit the Earth.
• Astronauts can vote from space using absentee ballots.
• Becoming an astronaut is a grueling process, with many applicants competing for very few spots.
• The space program has led to many inventions used on Earth, like memory foam and scratch-resistant lenses.
• The longest time a person has spent in space on a single mission is 437 days, set by Russian cosmonaut Valery Polyakov.
